Mental Case — Flashcards for the Serious Student App Reviews

Was great

Been using this for over a year and its useful. It has some rough edges that are not too bad and I enjoy being able to switch between my laptop, iPad and iPhone. The new IOS app never syncs now, and its been a couple of months, rendering it useless. UPDATE: it is now March…still doesn’t work

Getting there..

My last review was overly negative and while the cloud sync is marginal at best, this app has been very useful for me and is very capable. It is 95% of the way there, just needs some polishing.

5 stars when it works, 1 star right now

This app is indispensable to my studies when it is working as advertised. I love it. However, right now two main issues plague my user experience. 1. Doesnt sync between my iPhone and Mac anymore. 2. Crashes A LOT during my slideshows

Crash and ...

Sync does not work Please solve the problem

Sync feature fails after recent OS updates

Wonderful potential and a well designed app. However the iCloud sync feature recently stopped working automatically and when I attempted to download a lot of data from iCloud to my iPhone, the iPhone app crashed. Reinstalling the app has been unsuccessful. I hope Mental Case fixes this. You make the flash cards on your computer and if you want to study them on your iPhone or iPad, the sync feature must work.

Syncing problems

Doesnt sync

An incredible tool

Thanks to tech support, I am all synced up between my computer and iPhone. Now that the app is fully functioning, I feel unstoppable. Worth every pennty.

Terrible sync

When this app works its a great flashcard app! The problem is it doesnt work! For something as simple as syncing data that every other app seems to have figured out, this app cannot get it to work right. If it worked it would be worth the money. As it is its worthless.

syncing is a nightmare

I use to love this app but after an update its become almost useless. I use the Mac version to make index cards and then sync them to my iPad for studying. Now I get the cards on my Mac and then spend an hour trying to get them on my iPad. I really dont like anything about this update and wish they would go back to the old version. It worked!

downfall of a great app

I used to love this app, and recommended it to everyone. Since I was a big fan, I kept giving Mental Case more time to get it together, but after about 2 years of big hype yet pathetic releases, I changed to Anki am quite content. The biggest difference is seamless synchronizing, which was always a problem of Mental Case.

Its a good app.

A big reason is that it doesnt have to be connected to the Internet. Its very feature rich for a flashcard app. Hey! It does video too!

Good App -- Worst Sync EVER!

I like the app. Works on all my devices. The worst sync ever. I have to reset all my devices every time I add a new stack, or add to an existing stack. If it does not improve I will have to find an alternate app.

Cannot sync!

The app has been great until this week. The app now keeps crashing after five flashcards and my library can no longer sync. I have tried Dropbox and iCloud and neither work! Please fix ASAP!

Cannot sync / crashing

Great study app, highly recommend using the product. That being said, it has a sync issue with iOS 9 (likely due to the restructuring of iCloud). The application also crashes after a few slides. Looking forward to the updates.

Horrible

Help desk will not answer my questions and I have lost 2 test cycles worth of medical school flash cards. Dont get this app.

Dont get this!!!

I had mental case for both my Mac and my iPhone and iPad. I am currently writing this from my phone because mental case errored on my laptop and it is currently crashed beyond anything I can do to even start it. I am more frustrated than I have ever been. Medical finals are about to start and I dont have a computer. Thanks mental case.

Good App

I was studying 15 references for an important exam in medicine for one of famous universities last year. 15 reference books with more than 300-400 pages every book ! If there was not Mental Case , I could not study and be proficient in these 15 reference book. But the most important fault of Mental Case is in syncing between iPad and Mac.

FIX the bugs

Im a med student and have relied heavily on this app. However as of late it has been freezing and crashing a lot! I am quite displeased, but would love to see it fix since I appreciate the organization and layout of the app.

Essential but buggy

I have been using this app for years now. It got me through college and flight school. It is an absolutely essential part of my studying routine, however, it has a tendency to crash fairly often. I suspect that it has something to do with the large amount of flashcards that I have and/or the number of facets with images. I have amended my workflow to only include only 3 facets at most and tend to leave out images. Without the crashes, Id give it five stars. Mentalcase would also benefit if they took some cues from their competitor Brainscape, primarily in the area of simple UI, post studying reports, and "professionally-made" flashcards sets. Overall, I still highly recommend this app and it is one of the main reasons that I buy Apple products. UPDATE: Im docking a star simply because they do not allow for split-screen usage on the iPad Pro. My workflow dictates that I have iBooks or a pdf viewer on one side and a flash card app on the other. For now I am using Brainscape, however, it has its own set of problems.

Great app but buggy

When doing slideshow of cards, the correct and wrong buttons do not always work. Sometimes I accidentally swipe forward and I want to go back to mark it as wrong but it would be stuck as correct and I cant change its state. Also when things are already marked wrong it also gliches and not let me change it to correct.
