Mental Case — Flashcards for the Serious Student App Reviews

Disappointed

Very poor design, will not sync with Mac program which I bought for only that purpose. Save your hard earned dough, dont make the same mistake.

Great app!

I love this app and use it on a daily basis! I love that a card can have more then one side unlike a physical flash card. However, the only reason Im not giving this app 5 stars is because when I am reviewing, there are no buttons to press if I got an answer right or wrong. Instead its dependent on the area you press on the screen. This seems to get in the way because when I slide to go to the next question, it sometimes marks the question as wrong. Is there any way to add actual buttons icons to the app?

Kudos to the development team

I have used this application through out my study of Registered Massage Therapy, in BC Canada. (>3000 hours). Through out the journey this application allowed me to create, share, acquire (from online) other peoples libraries. Making my use of it both a tailored experience and less expensive in just creation. In addition it is very portable: syncing with my iPhone-ipad-imac, Ive always had it available to me. Whether just text, or text and illustrations. The questions can be reversed challenging my recall and sense of relation with what was presented. Test - study - retest - refine study - Retest => Review. I will continue to use my libraries now that Im a graduate and am practicing. Review is a continual exercise in reflection and relationships. I have used other, simpler apps but have always used this one as my goto for very good reasons: reliability, scope, ability to setup just for myself. Note: I am an adult diagnosed with ADD and the difficulty to focus;) This helped me considerably. I dont make the claim that it made me a stellar student though;) Im still learning in that direction.

Great app

Ive been using Mental case for 6 years Love it! It works great and it has been a life saver through out school. I plan on using it heavily through my next 3 years of Law School. Really well made app, especially when combined with the program on the Mac. Adding Dropbox to syncing was an excellent idea :) works great.

Sync

Its so slow to sync :( Don’t buy this app. After waiting for about 3 years they don’t how to optimize the files, syncing. also the system of learning is too old and pointless. You can try Anki.

Keeps crashing

I just purchased this application and it keeps crashing. It makes it pointless to study with. Still same issue. WTF!

Dev likes to empty your pockets as much as possible.

Now that they have enabled in app purchases, watch out. Every new feature that will be announced might cost you extra. Myself, already had to repurchase the mac version twice when they went to the app store, the IOS version I am now being asked to pay yet again. Wont be sinking anymore money into this product or company.

iOS 7 Please

I really like this application, but there are some improvements that can be made which it can make this application much better. 1. iOS 7 design: Although it has flat design, but there is some 3D design left. I think you should get rid of 3D case design. 2. User interface: The way the cards are stacked is not really beautiful. One row can only hold 8 cards, which is taking too much space. Overall, just make the user interface better. I hope this helps!

Good enough

Slow and unstable iCloud synchronization

Waste of memory.

Crash on startup. End of game. You cannon commit an untested application. Its not an option to keep it in my memory. Considering that the previous version were crashing while I was inserting images and some images are randomly cut instead of being resized, this application will be completely purged. It was a complete waste of times writing cards and waste of money buying it. Ill pass to cheaper and more efficient con competitors. ByeBye.

Sync NOT working

Please rewrite sync engine both for Dropbox and iCloud. For now sync is NOT working well. an hour to sync with a 100Mb down and 10Mb upload connection. Fix it, thanks. For now is useless for me

Crashes often while syncing

If youre running a slideshow while the app is syncing, it often crashes for me. I also own the Mac version, and it does the same thing. Poor coding is my guess. However, based on the design and spaced learning features, this could be the ultimate flashcard app if it wasnt frustrating to use.

Great study tool

A fantastic program for studying. A smooth interface and stable platform.

Great Idea

Great app, besides that its always crashing and the iCloud sync is extremely buggy. I wish they still had the option of manually syncing over WiFi so it would be dependable again.

Incredibly useful

I have used this app for several months now. As an airline pilot, I have more than 600 questions (and counting) on the airplane I fly with pictures. I use the Mac / iPad and iPhone versions which allow me to take a quiz easily every time I have a break. The syncing between the platforms work well. There is a little learning curve at the beginning due to all the possibilities of the app but once that is passed it turns out as an incredibly useful tool. I highly recommend it for anyone serious about building a powerful learning tool. I am expanding more and more the use of this app on a lot of topics I want to learn now that I have seen how useful it has become for my job. Also support is quite responsive. Great job!

iCloud Sync Is Terrible

The syncing feature on this is terrible. I have tied syncing 10 times now and it still wont pull the updates that I made on my iMac.

A little disappointed

Im a little disappointed with this app. I was hoping to upgrade smoothly from the original Mental Case App but it kept saying to upgrade that first before I could transfer data. I had not other way of moving the old data so I ended up deleting it and starting over. Im very much dislike the photo import feature. Why is it a square format screen? I have some grey photos that I want to study off of and I can pinch them down to a size to fit the square screen Mental Case 2 provides so my photo is cut off. Isnt this supposed to replicate and improve upon flash cards? Why can I not then maybe take a photo of a flash card or import a 4x6 photo in my camera roll. That was one of the primary reasons I upgraded!

Once great, now buggy.

Ive been using Mental Case for several years, now. It used to be a fantastic, easy to navigate SRS flashcard app. Over time, development has focused on a flashier but less appealing user interface, & has done so at the expense of speed & stability. Ive used the current app on two MacBooks & two iPod Touches. It has crashed frequently on all. iCloud sync is unreliable, & I often cant update my study deck for days. I used to hold out because I figured that kinks would be worked out thru updates. After years of decline, however, I now only stick with Mental Case because I havent made the time to learn Anki.

Good app but annoying iCloud sync

for the Most part, this app has done everything I I need. However, the iCloud sync is quite poor. It often doesnt sync for days and freezes when it is trying to.

Great app but buggy

Not critically buggy but annoyingly. The iCloud synch is cumbersome and tends to crash. But when it works its great I use this system on an iPhone, iPad, Mac Pro and Mac Air.
